Engineering History

In the 1980s & early 1990s, manufacturers, of both video & computer equipment, didn't know how to integrate their separate technologies. In the design, configuration, & creation of DHD PostImage, David H. Donald, along with his team of technicians, engineers and operators, researched and developed a fusion of the latest analog and digital technologies.

Upon completion of construction and installation, DHD PostImage Inc., submitted, and was approved by the Canadian Federal government, as the first Canadian researcher and developer, to create an analog/digital studio design system, which allowed communication between the computer and video worlds.

As such, DHD PostImage became a leader in the fusion of analog and digital technologies and was chosen above 11 other competing engineering companies, to design, configure, install, and create the multi-million dollar television studios for Montreals Olympic Stadium, specifically to cover Major League Baseball franchise, the Montreal Expos, along with Canadian Football League franchise, the Montreal Alouettes, as well as, various rock concerts, traveling operas, and other major stadium events.

After 20 years, the Olympic Stadium studios remain almost perfectly intact. They have been lovingly cared for as evidenced by these recent photos taken in October, 2010.

During our installation, Olympic Stadium architect Gilles Michon came to see our progress. He was so inspired by the quality of our wiring seen above, he returned a few days later with 30 other Olympic Stadium contractors, stating to them that the quality of DHD PostImage's work was now the new minimum standard for all Olympic Stadium contractors. Harold Bauer's signature appears on the blue video cable as an indication of our pride.

Soon after completion, as various baseball teams visited to play the Montreal Expos, comments were made by both the National League's Pittsburgh Pirates and the American League's Toronto Blue Jays stating that the Montreal Olympic Stadium's TV facilities were the finest installation in Major League Baseball.

Click here to view some photos of two of the DHD PostImage on-line editing suites, an animation suite, the DP Max paint suite, and the machine control room (MCR), the latter in its early stages of wiring. Note the messy appearance of wiring, eventually cleaned up at the end of installation.

Below, are the configurations of the two on-line editing suites, the three 3D & 2D computer animation, compositing & rotoscopy suites, and the video duplication and equipment rental departments.
